This was very... confusing? I don't know what to think about this one.

I started to read this because of the upcoming series that's going to be released on Netflix. The trailer looked promising, and since it's a graphic novel I thought it wouldn't take me too long, so I gave it a go. I'm thoroughly disappointed.

The blurb is a distinctly accurate depiction of what happens in this first volume. It is nothing more than a series of events that are barely connected and under-explained in a very puzzling way. I know that comics are usually read quickly, but this was speed-of-light fast kind of reading, in which doubtfully related events are crushed together in a mixture of nice art and potentially okay stories the authors could've delved into in a muuuch more coherent and extended way.

I don't think I'm reading the other volumes, but I'm definitely watching the series, because, c'mon, Tom Hopper.

I'd decided I wasn't going to read this after the first one, but after watching the new Netflix series I reconsidered, because I had to know more. What's great about the Netflix series is that it is basically an organized retelling (because it's not exactly the same) of the events of the first two Umbrella Academy volumes. So, naturally, after having actually understood the plot from a different (and chronological) point of view, reading the second volume was way more enjoyable.

Still, I don't think they did a good job of presenting the story in general. It is entertaining, and wonderfully messed up, but more often that not it gets confusing to the point where you just wanna shake your computer, or toss it against a wall, to rest your mind from whatever it is that is actually going on.

But it was a quick read, so the frustration is kind of held at bay, at least until I start the next one.
