4.5 stars

I don’t know what it is about Elle Kennedy’s books, but I always find myself in every single one of her characters. And that turns the characters (at least in my mind) into real people.

I read other reviews and some mentioned that Elle Kennedy’s romances don’t have that spark, but they feel outstandingly genuine for me. The development of their romance did not feel rushed at all, which is kind of impressive for a medium-length book. And they’re just adorable.

What absolutely deserves five stars in this novel is the humour. It’s very dumb but at the same time insanely entertaining, and a lot of that’s due to great character development. And the fact that Brenna is an incredibly sarcastic person just makes it so much more amusing.

I love Brenna— her endless swag, her fierceness, her black clothes and red lipstick.

There is one question I have after reading this book, though: Is Jake Connelly real? And if so, where can I get one? He is just such a decent character, because, despite his occasional errors in judgement, he has very healthy habits and ideas about how to face life. He is hilarious and overall awesome.

And that’s a constant in this book: positive messages covering a myriad of topics; sexism is sport broadcasting, relationships in general (romantic ones and friendships), dealing with regret, non-toxic masculinity, and more.

It was a thoroughly enjoyable read. Good NA sport romances are hard to find, and I’m soo glad I found this one.
