If there’s one thing L. J. Shen knows how to do, is drawing someone in, having them think the worst, and then blowing their f*cking minds. That’s what I felt like while reading the first two books in the series, and it was amazing. This one, though, wasn’t as mind-blowing at first, because, knowing the plot twist wasn’t going to be something I was expecting, I tried to think outside of the box, and I figured it out. But it truly is impressive how Edie could mention someone so many times, and yet let on no clue of who they are.
And then I was mind-blown again, because what I figured out wasn’t the actual absolutely mind-blowing plot twist. It just kept getting so much better and so much worse.
Trent and Edie were nice characters, but nothing exceedingly out of the ordinary. Even though I was looking forward to this story the most, they were definitely not my favourite couple in this series. And as interesting as it all was, and as real as their love felt, the other ones were so much better. Some characters did feel a little bit too exaggerated; their developments seriously lacking (Jordan, Valenciana, etc.) It also felt just a tad corny in the end, but that’s just my own cynical self judging every cloying romance.
But I really did enjoy it. It was fun and romantic and almost everything I was expecting it to be. I don’t regret reading this at all.
