This one was slightly better than the first two. Character development is getting increasingly better (in most cases), and the storyline more interesting (as new info comes in).
I’m very confused about the fluctuations in personality shown by most of the MCs. Is it good writing, to make me constantly change my mind about them? Or is it inconsistency? I know an abundance of betrayals and back-stabbings are very amusing for most readers, but I’m so over it.
The Kraeshians are just... horrible. I don’t like them neither as people nor as characters. Somehow everyone trusts them (don’t know why ‘cause they seem f*cking sketchy) and they never get caught. And I also really don’t get the point of their existence in this book (though I strongly suspect it’s to annoy me). It’s not like they actually make the story move forward in any way. Like, at all.
What I did like about this one is the development in Cleo and Magnus’ relationship (the one thing I think was done perfectly in this series). I love how the author took her time to expose their feelings for each other, and I love how we can appreciate how they slowly get over their initial differences (and they were big differences) and see the person beneath, to then start feeling things for each other.
I know my reviews of these books may be coming off as harsh, but I keep reading them, so the author must be doing something right. Ergo, I guess I’ll read the next one.
